Often found at luxury medical spas around the world, a chemical peel is a skin treatment designed to renew and refresh the complexion. Chemical peels can address various concerns, from fine lines and wrinkles to acne scars and sun damage. What’s more, they are customizable to suit different skin types and desired outcomes, making them a versatile option for many seeking non-surgical enhancement.*
At our medical spa in The Woodlands, we know firsthand the way a simple chemical peel can enhance the quality of a patient’s skin. If you are interested in non-invasive or minimally invasive skin rejuvenation, we encourage you to contact Pluvia Medical Spa!
What Kinds of Chemical Peels Are Available?
Our team at Pluvia Medical Spa offers two sought-after chemical peel options:
APEELE™
The APEELE™ combines a plethora of ingredients – including alpha and beta hydroxy acids – to exfoliate damaged skin. Frequently delivering noticeable results after just one session, the APEELE™contains a built-in topical anesthetic that allows the solution to reach the superficial and medium skin layers with optimal comfort. It can enhance tone and elasticity while improving irregular pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, and other common concerns.
ZO® 3-Step Peel
This innovative peel involves a series of three steps to comprehensively revitalize and nourish the complexion. First, a potent blend of salicylic acid, lactic acid, and trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is applied to the epidermis (or outermost skin layer). Next, we use a 6% retinol crème complex to stimulate collagen production and hydration. The third and final step aims to ease irritation and inflammation while restoring moisture balance.
What Does the Chemical Peel Process Involve?
The chemical peel process at Pluvia Medical Spa begins with a thorough consultation to assess your skin type and aesthetic goals. During the session itself, the chosen chemical solution is applied to the skin and left on for a specific amount of time. You may experience stinging or tingling as the peel settles in, but these effects are generally minimal at most.
After the appropriate time has passed, the peel is neutralized and removed. The treatment is typically very quick and can be tailored to fit into your schedule with minimal downtime, depending on the strength of the peel.
What Can I Expect After My Chemical Peel?
Recovery from your chemical peel treatment will vary based on the depth and type of peel performed. After a light peel, you may experience sunburn-like symptoms, with redness and flaking noticeable for up to a week. Medium peels usually result in more pronounced redness, swelling, and peeling, with recovery often taking closer to two weeks. Meanwhile, peels that more deeply penetrate the skin typically involve a longer recovery period – as well as the potential for more intense redness, swelling, and peeling over several weeks. In the case of light and medium peels, follow-up sessions are usually necessary for optimal results; however, deeper peels typically require a single treatment.
Regardless of the peel type, it is crucial to follow the aftercare instructions provided by our office. This typically includes avoiding sun exposure, using gentle skincare products, and refraining from wearing makeup until cleared by your provider. Your skin should continue to improve as it heals, revealing the smoother, more youthful complexion you desire.
